Macca Sees the Sights

Macca Sees the SightsStephen Mcateer was Newent Runners sole representative in this years Virgin London marathon. An elite level, age related triathlete, Steve is not a regular marathon entrant, but had trained hard, including a twenty mile run through the recent snow and prepared well. Despite the heat on the day, Steve turned in an impressive performance with a finishing time of 3.48.23.

Post race celebrations, in the capital, were enjoyed in the company of fellow Newent Runner and regular training partner, John Featherstone, who had to defer his entry for a year, owing to a stress fracture in his femur.

Saturday’s Newent parkrun was bathed in sunshine, for the second week running ! Rob Rideout was again at the helm as race director, aided by the following volunteers from Team Tango. Helen Kelly, Adrian Dover, Andrew Callard, Lynn Latham and John Featherstone. Henry Willis, Andrew Callard and James Griffiths achieved top ten finishes, closely followed by Ruth Hayden Cox in eleventh place and first female runner home. There were no NR PB’s.

The Sunday Social was again well attended, a hilly route was tackled, and everyone is now raring to tackle the various distances at Newport next Sunday.
