Steve Struggles Home

Steve Howe was Newent Runners only participant in the Manchester marathon. Despite a good start and seeming to be heading for a target time, Steve got into difficulties at the halfway point. Showing great determination he carried on to finish the event with a time just a little over five hours.

Duncan Creswell and Yvonne Featherstone took part in the Stafford half marathon. Duncan finished in 1500th position, with a time of 2:09:06, Yvonne came in with a time of 2:17:23 for 1790th place. The event had a field of over 2300 runners.

The sun finally made an appearance at Newent Parkrun, which helped dry out the course from its recent quagmire state. Although there no PB’s this week, the first thirty across the finishing line were all under twenty six minutes. Luke Delaney was the only team tango member to get into the top ten, finishing seventh. Several Newent Runners swelled the volunteer ranks namely, Yvonne Featherstone, Chris and Liza Barber, Adrian “The Midwife” Dover, Claire Price, Annie Bennion, Katie Cook, Helen Knowles and Emma Blewitt.

Clive Jones led a shortened Sunday Social road run this week. A notable absentee was your scribe, who had over enthusiastically celebrated Wolverhampton Wanderers return to the premier league. Road to hell, good intentions and all that. Fifteen people did get out. Clive himself, Liza Barber, Lisa Mansfield, Maggie Pettit, Sharon Smith, Teddy Barnes, Carol Loade, Karen Apted, Michelle Sterry, Emily Trenwith, Claire Price, birthday girl Karen Johnson (welcome back Karen ) Russ Dyer, Katie Cook, Kerry Cawkwell and Jill Barker.

On a serious note, there was an accident on the run. Maggie Pettit was unfortunate to be in collision with a cyclist and has a very swollen knee, we all wish Maggie a speedy recovery.
There is a mounting list of injury issues, some are still managing to run (even though they perhaps know they shouldn’t) and some are laid up. Here’s hoping that our chairman Jon Miles recovers from his Achilles problem, and the unlucky John Featherstone, who has been diagnosed with a stress fracture of the femur. Take it easy guys.

Don’t forget training on Wednesday night, which will be taken by Russ and Claire. Hope to see a few of you there.
